Last week, the boys and I went to Star Nursery to pick out plants for our Mini Garden. I let Nixon pick some of the plants out. He chose green peppers and I chose strawberries, roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and carrots.
My Grandma Sorensen was a big time gardener. She always had a least 5 gardens going at once. I’m thinking I got this gardening niche from her, maybe?
I remember her letting us go pick strawberries from her strawberry patch and showing us how to tell when the carrots were ready to be pulled.
I also remember helping her break the green beans in the front room.
She was one of the hardest working women I have ever know and not to mention one of the best cooks there ever was.
When she wasn’t in the garden, she was in the kitchen cooking and baking. I can still smell her freshly baked bread and canned peaches. mmm mmm.
I don’t think I will ever be as great as a Women as she was, but I sure will try to be the best that I can be and try to live up to her great example.
Thanks Grandma for your love, inspiration and example.
Love and miss you.
