Life’s little lessons

Some of our friends gave us a few bikes their boys weren’t using anymore, so we thought it would be fun to give them to the kids for Easter! It was perfect timing too because Ev was able to pick them up and hide them in the shed while we were out of town.
A few days being back home, Ev couldn’t wait any longer and wanted to surprise the sweets NOW! He hates waiting haha, you should see him at Christmas time, i find it pretty cute. So after dinner we  went out on the back porch and had the boys close their eyes. And no peaking!! Jovi…^:)
They were pretty excited but more so nervous when they saw their new bikes. (Not really the response both Evan and I were expecting.) We didn’t really realize it, but they have never been on pedal bikes before. We hadn’t really lived in a place where they could out and ride bikes before now so we never bothered to get them any.
Ev took turns helping the boys get comfortable on their bikes. They both kept wanting to pedal backwards instead of forwards. It’s going to take some time, and a lot of patience on our part, but with a lot of practice, I’m sure they will be cruising around before we know it!
Both Ev and I said to each other, “how do you teach a kid to ride a bike?!” The boys were really having a hard time grasping the concept. We wished that we could just jump on the bike and do it for them to help with their frustration. It’s just going to take patience and persistence to help them master this mini challenge of leaning to ride a bike. It made me think that life will be full of these little challenges for them they will have to overcome. I want so bad to just be able to do it for them! To take the pain and challenge away from them. But I know there will be many times I will have to let my protective Mom guard down and let them learn things on their own. Of course I will always be here when they need a little push or advice or a hand to hold! but… there are some things they will need to go through on their own to help them learn and grow.
Gibby was just happy and content to sit on her little trike. Her little legs don’t quite reach the pedals. so I pushed her around for a bit and she laughed and giggled the whole time.
Oh the simple joys of a almost 2 year old.
